Chiefs 25 Patriots 17

The Chiefs' Dante Hall returned the opening kickoff 74 yards to the Patriots' 17. Two Priest Holmes (24-118-1) runs and the Chiefs were up 7-0. It woud be the last time in the day that the Chiefs would see the endzone. The teams traded punts for a few possessions then Troy Brown picked off Trent Green (29-54, 341 yds, 1 td, 1 int) and returned it to the Chiefs 39. Three plays later and a Tom Brady to Chritian Fauria 8 yard pass tied the game. In the second quarter Morten Andersen kicked a 35 yard field goal to put the Chiefs in front again. The lead didnt last long though as Brady brought the Pats right back. Corey Dillon (17-55-1) ran in from five yards out to give the Pats a 14-10 edge. Another Andersen field goal, tis time from 25 yards cut the lead to one at the half. Bethel Johnson emulated Hall's opening kick return and took the second half kick 71 yards to the Chiefs' 23. But Brady couldnt force the ball into the endzone and the Patriots settled for an Adam Vinateri field goal. On their next drive the Chiefs again had to settle for an Andersen 21 yard field goal. The Chiefs regained the lead late in the third quarter when Andersen hit a 48 yard field goal. On their first drive of the 4th quarter, Andersen again hit a 21 yard field goal to push the lead to 5. Another Andersen field goal wuth uunder 2 minutes to play gave the Chiefs an 8 point lead. Brady's (22-30, 209 yds, 1 td, 1 int) last gasp was picked off Greg Wesley. Trent Green was selected the Most Valuable Player but this game belonged to the foot of Morten Andersen.
